Mesothelioma used to be a rapid death prescription. Today, it is still a very deadly cancer with few treatment options and an unfortunate survival rate that means far too many people die from the cancer. But there is hope; there is a silver lining, because as more people become aware of the early warning signs of mesothelioma, the better we all become at identifying the devastating cancer quickly.
Early detection means a better chance of survival, it means more months or even years spent living your life as you want to with your family. We encourage you to share this post with those you know so that victims of asbestos don’t let valuable time pass while they are wondering “what’s wrong?”
The Early Warning Signs of Mesothelioma Include:
- Lower back pain
- Side chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Persistent or nagging cough
- Trouble swallowing
- Weight loss
The problem with some of these symptoms and early warning signs of mesothelioma is that they can indicate a number of health complaints and problems.
Which leads us to the secret: If you or someone you know worked worked around asbestos, you may have a higher risk of developing mesothelioma than other people.
“Other people,” might develop symptoms like lower back pain and difficulty swallowing and talk to their doctors, going through a number of potential problems. These people might spend months going back and forth, running tests, trying out new treatment plans or medications to see if they help.
But people who may have been exposed to asbestos at some point in their lives either in their homes or place of work do not have that sort of time — if they start having some of the symptoms above, they need to get checked out as soon as they can!
And if it is cancer, they will be fortunate to get a diagnosis and start treatment as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, no matter when you were diagnosed or at what stage, mesothelioma is still a very terrible cancer and we in no way want to diminish the amount of suffering it has caused families around the globe.
