ChemoCare: A helpful on-line resource for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy
For a person recently diagnosed with mesothelioma or any type of cancer, the prospect of undergoing chemotherapy can be unnerving. ChemoCare helps cancer patients and their families learn about and cope with chemotherapy cancer treatments.
ChemoCare is sponsored by the Scott Hamilton CARES (Cancer Alliance for Research, Education and Survivorship) Initiative, a partnership between the Olympic ice-skating champion and the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Center, where Hamilton was successfully treated for testicular cancer after his diagnosis in 1997. The Cleveland Clinic provides all the content for this comprehensive site, which sets out to answer just about every imaginable question a patient might have about chemotherapy, including what it is, how it works and important related terms.
A section of ChemoCare is devoted to in-depth information about specific chemotherapy drugs, including what forms of cancer they treat, how they work, how they are administered, potential side effects, precautions and self-care tips. There is also information about proper nutrition during chemotherapy as well as tips on preparing for treatment, understanding the cancer experience, and financial assistance for those in need. Additionally, the site offers stories of cancer survivors’ experiences and provides a listing of other helpful resources. If a person doesn’t find an answer a question, they can submit it to the site for further assistance.
