A pulmonologist treats diseases involving the lungs and respiratory system. A pulmonologist generally uses medications to treat lung disease. For a mesothelioma patient, shortness of breath is a frequent symptom. A pulmonologist would try to improve the patient’s lung function and minimize the effects of the disease.
