About Tulane Cancer Center:

Over the past decade research has provided a tremendous understanding of the molecular events leading to cancer. These molecular changes represent the ideal targets for development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Most of the molecular changes that cause cancer can be found in a broad range of different tumor sites and therefore research in these areas cannot be well categorized by individual tumor site. Thus, our programs are aimed to facilitate research and clinical studies that take advantage of these new advances.

The Center of Biomedical Research Excellence in Cancer Genetics was established in the fall of 2004 and is funded by Grant Number P20 RR020152 from the National Center for Research Resourses (NCRR), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Its primary goal is to further the development of the Cancer Genetics Program of the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium in terms of developing research capabilities in cancer genetics and translating this research to health benefits for the citizens of Louisiana. The COBRE grant supports improvements in the research infrastructure and Core facilities for our investigators, as well as providing mentoring to foster the development of the career of some of our most promising young investigators.
