About Medical College of Georgia Cancer Center:

The MCG Cancer Center is growing as the home of basic scientists, translational researchers and clinical researchers, all focused on reducing the burden of cancer. Here you really take the discovery in basic science and then evaluate it for implementation in human trials. After careful review, the most promising new therapies are offered to our patients in Phase I and Phase II clinical trials.
The center has initiated alliances with physicians in Augusta, Savannah, Athens, Statesboro, Columbus, Albany, Brunswick and Valdosta, Georgia, as well as Aiken and Columbia, South Carolina, broadening participation for patients in those communities.
We are also expanding our biorepository, the MCG Tumor Tissue and Serum Repository — an extremely important component of translational research in Georgia. Studies on banked tissue are speeding up our pursuit of safe and effective treatments. What once could have taken several life times may now take only a few years because of this and other resources that are critical to the center’s mission.
The Georgia Cancer Coalition has designated the MCG Center, in collaboration with the University of Georgia, as a Center of Excellence. Six of the center’s researchers, Drs. John Cowell, Han-Fei Ding, Judith Giri, Keith D. Robertson, Huidong Shi and Arun Sreekumar, were recently added to the coalition’s roster of Distinguished Cancer Scholars. Such support is building our momentum to become a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center.
