About The Emory Winship Cancer Institute:

Cancer is a complex disease, and everyone at Emory Winship Cancer Institute is dedicated to helping people beat it. Depending on the type of cancer, patients see one or more experts in various departments. These experts are not generalists. They specialize and are dedicated to knowing, learning, and discovering everything they can about a specific cancer type. All members of Winship receive advanced training in specific forms of cancer and bring their years of experience and commitment to you. Depending on the treatment that is most effective against your cancer, more than one of these providers may be involved in your care. They may be a medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgical oncologist, hematologist, advanced practice providor, or other specialist.

The Role of Advanced Practice Providers
Winship’s nurse practitioners and physician assistants are highly educated and trained professionals. They are an integral part of each multidisciplinary cancer treatment team, and work to ensure our patients receive personalized care. They track patient progress, monitor the effectiveness of treatments, and supervise the day-to-day management of care. Advanced Practice Providers educate patients about important aspects of their care, and are the point of contact to answer any questions that may arise.
