What Makes Baron & Budd Different

More Than 30 Years Experience: Baron and Budd was one of the first law firms to successfully litigate an asbestos case, and we continue to fight for patients and families suffering from mesothelioma today. Having built a national reputation over 30 years as a leading mesothelioma firm, many asbestos companies would rather settle with Baron and Budd than go to trial. Over the years, we’ve also built an extensive database of information on asbestos products, exposure sites and other information, which is one of the resources we use when handling a client’s mesothelioma case.

We Care About Mesothelioma Patients: Baron and Budd has a history of giving back to the community and, most importantly, supporting advocates in mesothelioma research. Baron and Budd was a cornerstone donor and Executive Advisory Board member of the International Mesothelioma Program (IMP) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The firm has also donated generously to the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) and the Lung Cancer Alliance and has even underwritten two books about mesothelioma: the NCCN Patient Guidelines for Mesothelioma and CURE magazine’s Understanding Mesothelioma. The firm’s president and managing shareholder, Russell Budd, currently serves on the Board of the NCCN Foundation.

We Litigate Cases: Not all law firms actually practice law. Instead, these firms advertise heavily, sign up cases and then send or “refer” all of them to other law firms to handle the actual legal work and pocket the referral fee. Why? In many cases, these firms lack the capacity or expertise to take on the case themselves, so smaller, less specialized firms typically refer their mesothelioma cases to bigger law firms, like Baron and Budd, that are fully equipped to handle mesothelioma lawsuits from start to finish.

Precedent-Setting Cases: When the asbestos companies realized they could not escape responsibility, a group of companies attempted to limit the amount they would have to pay asbestos victims by creating a class action “settlement.” Since we knew that this would limit the rights of individual asbestos victims to seek individual compensation, Baron and Budd went all the way to the Supreme Court to protect the rights of future claimants, ultimately convincing the Court that such an action was illegal and improper because it violated due process rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution.

Experienced in Litigation and Bankruptcies: Sometimes in an asbestos lawsuit, some or all of the liable companies are bankrupt. While this means that your case will not be taken to trial, it still means that you can get money through bankruptcy funds. As a fully equipped asbestos law firm, Baron and Budd handles bankruptcies in addition to litigation, and can help guide you through your bankruptcy claim. Because of the firm’s extensive history and reputation with many of the asbestos companies, Baron and Budd is typically able to receive significant sums from bankruptcies for clients.
