Baron & Budd has a reputation as a national leader among mesothelioma law firms.
National Law Journal’s Plaintiffs’ “Hot List”
We have been named to the prestigious National Law Journal plaintiffs’ “Hot List” eight times as an exemplary law firm that has done “cutting-edge work on the plaintiffs’ side” (published by American Lawyer Media, 2002-2006, 2008, 2011-2012).
Highest Mesothelioma Verdict Ever in the State of Texas
In 2001, Baron and Budd achieved the highest ever mesothelioma verdict in Texas for Mr. Alfredo Hernandez, a construction worker who was exposed to asbestos through his work with joint compounds. Our attorneys received a $55 million verdict for Mr. Hernandez and his family. Even today, this verdict still stands as the all-time highest mesothelioma verdict ever reached in Texas.
Highest Mesothelioma Verdict in California in 2012
Baron and Budd attorneys achieved a $48 million verdict for Mr. Bobbie Izell against Union Carbide, a subsidiary of Dow Chemical, and others asbestos companies including Riverside Cement and CalPortland. Though Union Carbide brought in expert witnesses to testify that the company’s asbestos was safe, confidential internal memos revealed that the company knew about the dangers of asbestos, but chose to hide the truth. This verdict is the largest mesothelioma verdict reached in California in 2012.
2011 Top Texas Verdicts
In 2012, two of our mesothelioma verdicts were selected by Texas Lawyer as the top two verdicts of their kind in Texas in 2011 (American Lawyer Media, 2012).
Henderson v. Dow Chemical was selected as the number one mesothelioma verdict in Texas in 2011. Filed on behalf of Mr. Henderson and his family, a Dallas jury ultimately awarded the family $9 million against defendant Dow Chemical.
Gensler v. Hercules, Inc. was selected by Texas Lawyer as the second highest mesothelioma verdict in Texas in 2011. This is believed to be the first asbestos cancer verdict reached against Hercules for exposing workers to asbestos at Dow Chemical. The jury award Mr. Gensler’s family $8.4 million.
Successful Appeals Track Record
Through the firm’s nearly 35 year history, our attorneys have frequently gone up against the asbestos industry in the appeals process. Unlike some law firms, Baron and Budd is fully equipped to handle the appeals process of a mesothelioma lawsuit. Our firm has defended every single appeal our firm has ever handled. No other law firm has this kind of track record with appeals.
Many of our mesothelioma verdicts have been featured by VerdictSearch, a division of American Lawyer Media, dedicated to providing the latest information on major verdicts and settlements throughout the country.
In 2001, our groundbreaking $55 million verdict for a mesothelioma patient in El Paso made the National Law Journal’s list, in conjunction with VerdictSearch, of 100 largest verdicts in the nation in 2001. This verdict still stands as the largest mesothelioma verdict ever in the state of Texas.
Recently, in 2011, our $9 million verdict against Dow Chemical was selected as a VerdictSearch “Featured Case.”
