Asbestos Manufacturer Profiles
The law says that manufacturers must be considered experts on their products: they are required to know about any hazards posed by their products. While every company had reason to know that asbestos products were dangerous because of the information available in medical journals, some companies had much more extensive information about the dangers of asbestos.
Although asbestos manufacturers sometimes coordinated their activities through trade associations and other coalitions, they each have their own story as well. Each manufacturer entered the business at a different time, and each had different levels of information about the risks of asbestos in general and of their products in particular.
On these pages, you can find profiles of some prominent asbestos product manufacturers. Some of these companies are still in business, some are not. One is facing criminal prosecution today for decisions that exposed a community to asbestos from its mining operations, killing hundreds of residents in a single small town. You can read their stories and see company documents that speak for themselves.
