Lung Cancer Is Biggest Cancer Killer, Yet Still Draws Little Research Funding

November is lung cancer awareness month, and though this frequently misunderstood cancer does not receive the same amount of attention as, for example, breast cancer, things are slowly beginning to shift. However, there is still a long way to go: lung cancer has no ribbon, no fundraising run and no survivor support group.

Federal funding for other common cancers are far above that for lung cancer, which only receives $1,200 per death compared to $27,000 per death for breast cancer, $14,000 per death for prostate cancer and $6,500 per death for colon cancer. Yet, each year lung cancer claims more lives than colon, prostate, ovarian, lymph and breast cancers combined.

Certain types of lung cancer are caused by exposure to asbestos, such as mesothelioma. If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or asbestos-related lung cancer, or if you’re just looking for more information about asbestos, contact Baron & Budd at 866.855.1229.
