New Tests May Help Detect Mesothelioma at an Earlier Stage

Researchers at Somalogic, Inc. have discovered that specific changes in the blood of patients with mesothelioma and pancreatic cancer may allow doctors to diagnose the cancers at an earlier stage.

Sadly, these deadly cancers are typically not detected until very late, which makes them difficult to treat. With this new information, it could be easier to detect the deadly cancers at an early stage and help patients better treatment their cancer.

The new tests rely on molecules of genetic material that stick to proteins called aptamers. New technology makes these molecules more likely to cling to specific proteins.

In the study researchers found that patients with mesothelioma and pancreatic cancer have significant biological differences that distinguish their blood samples from those without cancer.

Mesthelioma, though rare, is caused by asbestos exposure and kills an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 people per year worldwide. If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or an asbestos-related disease, contact Baron & Budd for a free legal consultation.
