Racquet Club asbestos was not a surprise
Asbestos was found in two different areas in the Racquet Club in Park City, Utah, but it came as no surprise. Crews hired to test the site for asbestos found a layer under the tennis courts and in the drywall of what used to be a restaurant. None of the deadly asbestos was friable, but the debris will be handled and disposed of carefully in compliance with state and local regulations to ensure that no deadly asbestos fibers become airborne. The building was erected in the 1970s when use of asbestos in building materials was common. The city purchased the property in 1987.
The Racquet Club is undergoing an $8.3 million renovation. Most of the aging facility will be demolished and a new athletic center will take its place.
