Shipyard worker dies of peritoneal mesothelioma at age 74

Jerry E. Cain of Port Orchard, Washington, died on July 3 at age 74 from peritoneal mesothelioma. Cain spent the last days of his life at the Hospice Care Center in Bremerton. Peritoneal mesothelioma is a deadly cancer caused by exposure to asbestos that can take decades to manifest. Cain was likely exposed to asbestos during the time when he worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 32 years before retiring in 1991.

Jerry is survived by his wife Sharon, two children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
