Grayslake Relay For Life brings together cancer survivors and families

The annual Grayslake Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society took place on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Round Lake High School, in Grayslake, Illinois. The all-night relay began at 6:00 pm and ended at 6:00 am on Sunday with a closing ceremony.

The event was bigger than ever this year with 44 teams participating. Mini-events took place throughout the night, including raffles, children’s activities, silly contests, mini fundraisers and a talent show. Refreshments and a DJ kept the walkers on track, and the track was lined with candlelit paper bags bearing the names of friends and loved ones who have succumbed to cancer, including cancer survivor Katherine Hill’s father, who died of peritoneal mesothelioma in January. Relay teams set up camps and found creative ways to add to fundraising efforts for their teams.
