Former Youngstown Sheet & Tube building comes down

Once the largest independently owned steel operation in the country, Youngstown Sheet & Tube closed its Brier Hill, Ohio operations in the late 1970s. Now the building that headquartered the industrial company is coming down piece by piece, starting with the sandstone slab bearing the company name. Workers tore out the asbestos materials from inside the building first then began dismantling the walls.

Demolition of the nearly century old building was part of an agreement between the city and V&M Star, which will use the land to expand the entrance to its new facility. Funding for the project was provided via a state grant of $631,343.
