Rosewood property contaminated with asbestos, PCBs and other substances

Stevenson University in Baltimore, Maryland hired Urban Green Environmental LLC to conduct an environmental study of the former Rosewood Center in Owings Mills to evaluate contamination and assess the suitability of the property for a proposed expansion of the school campus. Contamination was discovered in the former institution for mentally disabled people during a state-commissioned study last year.

The original study found that the grounds and buildings contained asbestos, lead, PCBs and concentrations of toxic chemicals from ash dumping and leaking oil tanks. The new study will determine the full extent of the toxic contamination.
