Former paper building could come down next spring
Dayton city officials said recently that a company has purchased the old Howard Paper Company building. Garrett Day, LLC of Lexington, Kentucky bought the asbestos-ridden building that has become a home for vagrants and drug activity. Demolition will begin next spring following asbestos abatement. The city will request a grant from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund for $2 million to help cover the cost of asbestos cleanup and demolition.
The new owners have been discussing development ideas with the public school system and Sinclair Community College about future use of the land after the building is razed. As part of the funding agreement, Garrett Day would be required to build on the lot within two years of receiving a grant.
