Delaware Hotel asbestos removal done, demolition underway from July into August

The Delaware Hotel demolition is well underway following asbestos abatement performed earlier this year. The demolition crew will begin with the banquet facility and restaurant, followed by the main structure of the four-story hotel. Materials from the demolished building will be separated into piles onsite to facilitate recycling. Almost 90% of the building materials will be recycled.

The city purchased the old hotel for $227,000 using a $1.1 million Neighborhood Stabilization Grant. Asbestos removal and demolition was priced at $488,000. The remaining funds will be used to demolish other area properties.
