OSHA conducts asbestos investigation at Holyoke High School
A $22.7 million renovation of Holyoke High School in Holyoke, Massachusetts sparked an anonymous call to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) about high levels of asbestos. The project manager said that all precautions were taken and testing was done, but OSHA must investigate all claims. The complaint centered on old window caulking that a subcontractor had tested rather than report suspicions to the project manager. Documented asbestos abatement and testing has been done throughout the project in accordance with the law, and licensed companies are doing the work and testing, according to Stephen W. Niec, project designer with testing company Forbes & Wheeler Inc.
