Obici House renovations begin

The historic Obici House in Suffolk, Virginia, former home of Planters Peanuts founder Amedeo Obici, is undergoing extensive renovation including asbestos and lead abatement before leaseholder Ronnie Rountree can turn the house and grounds into a golf course. The carriage house will be torn down and replaced with a pro shop, connected to the Obici House.

Susan Blair, president of Citizens for the Preservation of Obici House, mourns the changes. She believes that the house will be dropped from the national and state historic registers once the historical integrity of the home is destroyed. Rountree disagrees. He wants to restore the house to its former glory to be enjoyed for many generations to come.
