Phase III begins at BoRit asbestos site
The BoRit site in Montgomery, Alabama area has been on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund National Priorities List since April 2009. Phase I of the project was completed last summer when the upper part of the Wissahickon Creek was cleaned and stabilized. Phase II, cleaning and stabilizing the banks of the Rose Valley Creek, was completed in March. Phase III is underway, and EPA workers are finished cleaning the reservoir berm closest to the Wissahickon and are working on the banks of Tannery Run Creek. The steep banks of the creek present a problem to workers, but the crew improvised a solution. To access the creek banks, a ramp was erected from the reservoir onto the asbestos pile at the Kane Core section of the site and an access road was built along the south side of the reservoir.
