Mesothelioma clinical trials will follow discovery of tumor drug sensitivity
Polaris researchers have discovered an enzyme deficiency in several types of cancerous tumors, including malignant pleural mesothelioma, plus breast, lung and gastric cancers that respond to pegylated arginine deiminase (ADI-PEG 20) with inhibited growth. The absence of this enzyme may prove to be an identifying marker for cancers that will respond to ADI-PEG 20 treatment and provide a new and effective treatment for more than 45 types of cancer. Trials on human patients are due to begin soon.
