Schenectady library will stay open during renovations

The Schenectady County Public Library in New York plans to double the size of the children’s wing, add an additional elevator, and convert all the restrooms to be handicap accessible. Before the renovations can begin, there must be an abatement procedure to remove asbestos from the basement, the piping and the floor tiles. The work will be conducted at night when the library is closed to the public to cause the least possible disruption to library activities. To date, $283,000 has been raised to begin the project, and ongoing events are planned to raise the remainder of the needed funds.
