Two Massachusetts men plead guilty to improper asbestos removal

The owner of Northeast Demolition and Removal, Arthur Amaral, and the site foreman, Shaun Amaral, have accepted plea agreements stemming from charges of failure to comply with asbestos disposal regulations. Investigators from the Massachusetts Environmental Crimes Strike Force say that the two men ordered workers to demolish old buildings before having the asbestos removed, exposing employees and the environment to asbestos contamination. An asbestos study was conducted before the work began, but the asbestos found was never removed.

Arthur Amaral must pay $1,000 in fines, and Shaun Amaral must pay $500 under the terms of the agreement; both men are on probation for two years. As part of their probation, any asbestos work they perform while on probation must be reported to probation officers, and all laws and regulations regarding asbestos abatement must be followed.
