Gig Harbor to replace asbestos cement water main

In a meeting that took place on May 6 at the Gig Harbor Civic Center in Washington, the city of Gig Harbor invited the community to voice opinions about road closure scheduling and proposed detours to offer convenience to as many as possible during an upcoming construction project. The water main in the area of Harborview Drive and Stinson Avenue has had several failures in the last few times, and it needs to be replaced. This will involve tearing up nearly 5,000 lineal feet of asbestos cement piping and replacing it with new 12-inch ductile iron water main.

The project will begin in August and run through October, and in addition to road closings and detours, it will cause intermittent interruption of water to the surrounding areas. More open house meetings are scheduled, and the public can get news and sign up for email alerts at the City of Gig Harbor Web site.
