Vasapollo sentenced to one year in prison for accepting asbestos contract kickbacks

Joseph Vasapollo, the former head of Brockton’s building department in Massachusetts, will spend a year in prison for accepting $4,000 in kickbacks from a contractor who landed a $15,000 contract to perform asbestos abatement on the Brockton War Memorial Building in 2008. Prosecutors had Vasapollo under surveillance and recorded the meetings and the transaction. His son, Joseph Vasapollo Jr., pled guilty to charges of bribery and extortion. He was sentenced to two years of federal probation.
