Pennsylvania borough gets $100k to clean up building collapse site
Officials of Darby Borough in Delaware County, Pennsylvania have announced that they have finally secured funding to cleanup an old building that collapsed in 2008. When the building initially collapsed, the site was fenced in, but remained untouched otherwise. The site is contaminated with asbestos, lead paint and PCB materials.
The grant of $100,000 is expected to be enough to cover the cost of asbestos and other toxic material cleanup, removal of debris, backfilling the site, shoring up any structural damage to adjacent buildings, and repair of the sidewalks and curbing around the site. The goal is to bring the site back to an open, empty grass lot, ready for new development.
