Benefits held for 12-year-old boy with peritoneal mesothelioma
Twelve year old Taylor Boerem of Scandia, Minnesota was diagnosed on March 24, 2010 with stage 4 malignant peritoneal mesothelioma, a virulent cancer usually associated with long-term exposure to asbestos.
Taylor is the youngest of only six children ever diagnosed with this disease, which usually strikes adults 10 to 40 years after asbestos exposure.
Taylor has a lot of medical procedures ahead. Proceeds from these and future benefits will help defray the costs of operations, chemotherapy, treatments, medications and travel. Benefit activities included a bike run, several raffles, a silent auction, entertainment by DJ Dale, carnival games, a hog roast and live entertainment by several local bands.
