Iowa flood repair project stalled by failure to conduct asbestos inspections

The Block by Block organization in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is working to revamp 12 blocks of flood damaged homes, but failure to follow asbestos safety regulations has temporarily derailed the project. The program administrator, Clint Twedt-Ball, claimed that organization officials were unaware of the regulations, but the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says that they should have known.

Block by Block has already taken steps to comply with regulations by ordering inspections of 18 houses already in progress. All future homes will be inspected before renovation work begins. The inspections will likely slow the project down, but Block by Block is determined to finish the area renovations.
