Ohio gives $280k to clean up former Concord Foods site
The Clean Ohio fund is a state agency funded by taxpayer money that has helped cities all over Ohio return abandoned commercial properties to clean, safe environments in an effort to rejuvenate communities and breathe new life into deteriorating neighborhoods.
The city of Dayton applied for funding in March to clean up the more than 100-year-old Concord Foods site and was awarded $280,000. Environmental crews will begin by analyzing soil and water samples and performing an asbestos survey. Earlier studies indicated that toxic chemicals may have leached into the soil from the deterioration of old machinery. Additional state funding may be available if the cleanup cost overruns the amount of the award.
