Pennsylvania woman finds mesothelioma-causing asbestos on roadside

A woman who was driving down Hess Road in Bentleyville, Pennsylvania called 911 when she noticed eight large trash bags alongside the road. The trash bags were marked “hazardous waste.” Once county workers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the bags contained asbestos.

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) stated that the bags had been tied off and transported from Somerset Township to Hess Road. They are not releasing the name of the company that first came across the asbestos waste.

Asbestos is a toxic substance that, when inhaled, can cause serious illnesses like lung cancer and mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a rare but serious form of cancer that attacks the lining surrounding the lungs, heart and abdomen.
