Two contractors charged with illegally dumping over five tons of asbestos debris
Two New York contractors – Robert Bishop and Salvatore Capizzi – face serious charges of endangering public health, safety or the environment and criminal mischief for improperly storing asbestos-containing debris from constructions sites in the Buffalo area. Faced with an impending inspection at his work site, Bishop had workers haul the toxic debris to an abandoned warehouse, where it remained undiscovered for over a year. The illegal dumpsite has since been cleaned at a cost in excess of $137,000.
Asbestos removal and disposal is strictly regulated to protect workers and the public from its dangers. Inhaling asbestos fibers can lead to mesothelioma, lung cancer and other serious illnesses.
