MolMed begins Phase III trial of malignant pleural mesothelioma treatment
MolMed S.p.A. has announced that its first malignant pleural mesothelioma patient has begun treatment in the Phase III trial of investigational antitumor drug NGR-hTNF. The results of the multicenter Phase II trial were positive, and the MolMed chairman said that the Phase III trial was optimally designed to look at the full therapeutic potential of NGR-hTNF as a novel mesothelioma treatment option.
The Phase III trial is an international randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study that expects to enroll 400 adult malignant pleural mesothelioma patients whose disease has progressed after pemetrexed-based (Alimta) chemotherapy. Patients in the trial will be given either supportive care alone or combined with one of three different chemotherapy drugs.
