Waterfall Construction fined for asbestos violations
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) fined Waterfall Construction and Landscaping Inc. $28,625 for asbestos violations. The fines are related to an April 2008 demolition project where inspections uncovered floor tiles and wall panels that contained asbestos in a partially demolished structure, with broken asbestos-containing debris also found at the site. Waterfall Construction failed to notify the DEP about the project at least 10 days before work began, a regulation that was put in place to protect workers and the public from asbestos exposure.
Waterfall Construction has to pay $7,500 of the total fine, although the remainder will be suspended as long as the construction company has no further asbestos violations in the next year. The company also had to hire a licensed asbestos contractor to clean up the asbestos from that project.
