Detroit resumes its demolition spree after temporary halt

The City of Detroit Michigan’s 2010 demolition plan is back on track after a temporary delay to work out some guidelines with state officials. The work was halted in early April after the debris of a demolished house on Lewernze St. raised community concerns about asbestos contamination. See related story. The meeting between city officials and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment went well, with the city agreeing to share information, provide timelines, and follow state and federal regulations for safe demolition procedures and asbestos redaction.
