Pathways and Possibilities provides complementary therapies for cancer patients

Susan Flanigan started HEART (Holistic Energies and Alternative Restorative Techniques) last summer to provide her reflexology services to cancer patients in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She came to realize that holistic services as complementary therapies helped patients to relieve their anxiety, stress and pain. Relaxing the body helps it heal, and it helps the lymph system clean toxins from the body.

Many clients could not afford her services that were not covered by insurance. Flanigan wanted to help these people, too, so she launched Pathways and Possibilities, Incorporated, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that allows her to make her services available to anyone who needs them, regardless of their ability to pay.

Pathways and Possibilities helps suffering people to improve their quality of life, but it also helps support caregivers, who are too often forgotten.

Charitable contributions to the organization are tax deductible. Fundraising efforts have already begun, and Pathways and Possibilities has applied for a grant. Volunteers have been lined up to provide patients with massage therapy, reflexology, meditation, Reiki, acupressure and other services. Clients will need to have referrals from their doctor’s office or support groups, and some treatments require permission from a doctor.
