New York City inspector falsified lead and asbestos reports
Saverio Todaro was an environmental threat assessor in New York City. His company, SAF Environmental Corp., was certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to perform environmental risk assessments to determine whether or not buildings were safe from lead and asbestos contamination. Contractors, management companies and landlords hired him to test building environments and file the necessary papers with the EPA certifying them safe. Todaro, 68 now and suffering from emphysema, has admitted in court that he never performed any lab tests, and that for eight years, he falsified lab reports, putting thousands of New York residents at risk.
