Laborers’ union seeks construction apprentices in Poughkeepsie
The Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local # 1000 in Poughkeepsie, New York is looking for construction workers who are suitable for being trained in asbestos removal. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have transportation to and from job sites and have a high school diploma or a GED. They also will be required to pass a physical exam.
Asbestos removal is a job that must be performed by specially trained workers, as asbestos exposure can lead to serious illnesses like mesothelioma and lung cancer. Those who are chosen as apprentices will learn how to safely handle and remove asbestos and use all required protective equipment properly.
