Phase II of BoRiT cleanup finished in March
The BoRit site covers a large area in North Pennsylvania Upper Amblin and Whitpain areas. The dangerous condition of the site put it on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund National Priorities List last spring. Phase I, cleanup of Wissahickon Creek, is complete, and Phase II on Rose Valley Creek is wrapping up.
The cleanup project will continue to restore ground and waterways compromised by an asbestos manufacturing plant that shut down in the 1970s, leaving piles of asbestos waste material in three different disposal areas, including an 11-acre patch of land that was leveled and used to build a playground.
