New Hampshire contractor to pay $18,500 for asbestos violations
Lee Jackson, a contractor from New Hampshire, agreed to pay $18,500 for violating the Asbestos Management and Control Act and state asbestos regulations. Jackson’s violations included demolishing buildings without conducting asbestos inspections prior to demolition and failing to notify the Department of Environmental Services at least 10 days before demolition work began.
Asbestos is a toxic substance that can cause serious illnesses like lung cancer and mesothelioma. Regulations are put into place to protect workers and the public from asbestos exposure. Of the $18,500 penalty, $5,000 will be paid to the State, and the remainder will be permanently suspended if Jackson does not violate the settlement agreement or state asbestos regulations for two years.
