Manhan Rail Trail cleanup moves forward

Asbestos cleanup is expected to begin this summer at the Manhan Rail Trail in Easthampton, Massachusetts. A trail extension project has been delayed for years because of the asbestos contamination discovered on a section of the trail. The project would also include an extension of the sewer line.

The asbestos contamination comes from the former W.R. Grace plant that manufactured insulation in the area for 40 years, although the plant closed 20 years ago. The soil cleanup is being paid for by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
