Gig Harbor replacing asbestos pipes

Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor, Washington is undergoing a renovation project to replace 330 feet of asbestos cement water main between Soundview Drive and Pioneer Way. The new pipes are expected to last for about 50 years. The old pipes have ruptured in several locations recently, moving replacement to the top of the city priority list.

The project is expected to take about three weeks and begins on Monday. Streets will be closed to traffic and parking during construction hours, which will last from midnight to about 10:00 am for minimal disruption of area businesses. This project is not part of the larger $1.9 million asbestos cement water main replacement project slated to begin later in the year. Bids for the larger project will be accepted in June, with construction expected to begin in July.
