Historic Patrick Henry Hotel getting a complete makeover

The historic Patrick Henry Hotel in Roanoke, Virginia is being renovated in a most unusual way. Unlike most renovation projects, the hotel still had many useful items that first had to be sold, such as beds, coffee pots and other hospitality items. The hotel will be transformed into apartments, office space and retail space by mid 2011. The ballroom and lobby will be open to public events. The renovation includes asbestos removal, which will be required throughout the building. Other renovation tasks are more cosmetic, such as restoring the ballroom floor to its former beauty, removing ceiling tiles to highlight the architecture of the original building and refurbishing original chandeliers.
