Former Wisconsin federal building to begin renovations

The former federal building in Wausau, Wisconsin has been vacant for a decade. City leaders have now decided it is time to renovate and repurpose the building. The city purchased the building for only $1 in 1995, and it has cost the city approximately $20,000 every year since then for routine maintenance. Once the building has been renovated, the city will decide how it may best be put to use. Popular options include studio space, a combination of retail and residential areas, and college classrooms. Although bids have not yet been sought, it is thought that renovations could be quite costly due to the lead paint and asbestos floor tiles within the building.
