City officials seek court order to get asbestos removed before fire site demolition

On February 3, 2009, a fire destroyed two downtown buildings in Boone, Iowa. A year later, residents are still waiting for the demolition of these buildings to begin. City officials are seeking a court order to force property owners to remove the asbestos in the building in order for the buildings to be torn down during the spring. The fire destroyed two businesses, an antique mall and a Chinese restaurant, and also killed Benjamin Ziegenmeyer. Although more than a year has passed, the state fire marshal has not yet ruled on the cause of the fire.
