El Paso opts for historic school preservation
The historic 109-year-old Alamo Elementary School in El Paso, Texas is considered by some to be one of the most significant structures in all of El Paso. The building is currently closed, but a school district representative has assured residents that it will not be demolished. Instead, a reconstruction process will begin to address the asbestos, mold, cracked bricks, damaged windows and other aesthetic and structural problems the building has. The Historic Landmark Commission is pleased with the decision because of the rarity of remaining buildings from that time period in the area.
