Mesothelioma-causing asbestos was part of Frink America site cleanup
The former Frink America site in Clayton, New York has been declared clean and safe for the public by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Cleanup efforts included the removal of asbestos-contaminated buildings, contaminated soil and petroleum storage tanks. Asbestos is a hazardous substance that was commonly used in building materials. Exposure to asbestos can cause serious respiratory illnesses like mesothelioma.
Now that the cleanup is complete, the town hopes to market the property and get it back on the tax role. The location is ideal for redevelopment, and town officials are hopeful for its future use.
