Illinois county to spend over $100k to fix cafeteria car crash damage

It is going to cost Lake County, Illinois over $116,000 to repair the damage caused by a county employee who accidentally drove her car into the Government Center cafeteria on October 20. The 72-year-old woman 2008 Suzuki into the handicapped parking space in front of the cafeteria when she accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, plowing through 50 feet of the cafeteria before the vehicle stopped.

Polet Construction was awarded the contract for the repair work, which will include cleanup of asbestos ceiling tiles that were damaged as a result of the crash. Asbestos is a toxic substance that must be removed in a regulated manner to protect public health and the health of the workers.
