Old Georgia church coming down for new senior center
Demolition on the old Byne Church in Albany, Georgia began on January 20. Some of the buildings coming down were contaminated with asbestos and infested with termites. Once the demolition is complete, construction can begin on the new $9 million senior citizen complex that will be taking the old church’s place.
The Southwest Georgia (SOWEGA) Council on Aging has been looking for a new senior center for many years, as the current one has a leaky roof and does not have an adequate kitchen for the number of meals they need to serve. The council is planning to move all of their three offices and two senior centers into the new building complex.
