Fire in Portland, Maine had obstacles for firefighters
On the evening of January 14, firefighters in Portland, Maine battled a blaze across the street from Joe’s Smoke Shop. Twenty-five firefighters managed to get the fire under control in 25 minutes, but they had to spend the rest of the night cleaning up. The fire started on the first floor, with smoke filling all three floors. Three ladder trucks helped firefighters get to the roof.
The building was being renovated at the time of the fire, and asbestos abatement had begun just two days prior. This made it difficult for fire crews to get around inside the building, as there was a lot of equipment and garbage in the way. Thankfully, there were no injuries.
